Strides is an immersive journey through womanhood, which navigates the
intricate paths shaped by societal expectations and norms. An installation where
the essence of a woman's walk is dissected through a convergence of mediums.
As an artist coming from the field of dance, I take a departure from traditional
movement exploration, delving into the realms of photography, video, audio, and
text. Through still images captured in moments frozen in time, the installation
challenges the conventional narrative of a woman's walk. The static images serve
as poignant snapshots, capturing the subtleties and complexities often
overlooked in the dynamic realm of movement.
As the audience traverse the installation, they engage with the curated blend of
visuals, sounds, and narratives. The static nature of the photographs invites them
to pause, reflect, and internalize the nuances of a woman's journey and also to
experience movement through stillness, to witness the profound impact of a
single step, and to reflect on the multifaceted layers of womanhood. It is a
dialogue around gender, challenging preconceptions, and celebrating the diverse
expressions that encapsulate the walk of every woman.
